a charming city in the middle of the mountains
Dinant is located in the southern region of Belgium, known as Namur, and the language spoken here is French...as the influence comes entirely from this country!
The small town was built on the banks of the Maas river, which is very famous here in Europe, as it is about 950 kilometers long...and flows from France thru Belgium into The Netherlands.

The main attraction of the city is the fortress, known as "Citatelle". A building that stands on a cliff, 100 meters high, with a panoramic view of the entire city. This fortification began its construction in the 11th century, in 1051, but much of it was destroyed.
To get there, visitors can risk climbing the 408 steps, on a stone staircase, feeling all the excitement of the heights! But if you prefer, there is a cable car that takes you to the site and the journey is only 5 minutes!

Another tip for you to visit in Dinant is the cookie factories, called "Couques de Dinant", a specialty of the city. They are similar to American cookies, but have a special flavor of honey and other local spices! Simple and wonderful!
But in the European spring and summer, many tourists come to Dinant looking for new and radical thrills. Climbing mountains, riding quad bikes, canoeing or kayaking, everything is possible here in this city, which is similar to "Brotas", in the interior of São Paulo.
